Spungella Contest Ideas

Hey readers!

I want to do a contest here and while I'm thinking about what type, I also wanted to ask you guys what you would like to have as a fun contest.

First price is an art-of book (you choose the one you want and I'll send it to you), second price is the pose able Professor Layton figure! Of course right now I recommend the How to Train Your Dragon book. :)

Unless no one cares about all this, but that's why I'm posting this first. So, anybody up for it and if yes, what type of contest would you like to see?

The contest should be, "First guy named Jim to respond!" and, oh, wait, I already won that one :P

I'd suggest something animation related (didn't see that one coming)... maybe pick a fun clip or something, similar to what the Spline Doctors did?

do a 100 frame exercise where you pick the rig and topic

The 100 frame idea would be fun. Although, I think a set topic(s) would be good to have as a starting point.

I think 100 frames works for me and a chosen topic would be great! I wouldn't limit what rigs we can use though.

Pantomime sounds fun!

That's pretty funny that so far it's about you guys doing the hard work. I had something in mind that was more the opposite. :)

So how would you do the decision making process. Do a poll at the very end where everybody is voting or I'm choosing the winners?

Poll. We all know you like your blue rays and twix :D

I have another idea for the contest. Everyone does animation everyday and I think it might be better to have the contest not animation related.

So the 'Big' idea is we get a clip from you. We have a 100 frames, but we don't animate it, we shoot it live action style. Like shooting a reference reel. Would be fun to see what people use as sets/props and well acting in general :)

@Omer Hahaha, nice!

Or, we can do a short about a school play....

more like poll the top 5, then JD picks the winners that way the one the the most facebook friends doesnt win, just gets through :P
but how long will the comp run for?

Jean-Denis Haas said...

That's not a bad idea, a poll to narrow it down and then I decide (no bribes!!!).

The contest would run for one week once all the details are announced.

whatever, can not wait it anymore!~

whats wrong with 60? 80 frames? haha
Maybe everyone can turn in a split screen clip showing the whole work flow? sketches, reference and final?

P.S. animation is love :)

I think it would be good to do an exercise where you really have think about a specific character trait. It's not about who makes the smoothest looking animation, its about who communicates the character trait(given by you)the best in less than 10 seconds(less is more). So whether you choose to use sound or not, just do whatever is needed, that's where your creativity comes in.
So for example you might give us one of these traits: courageous, cowardly, conceited, confused, jealous, lazy, lonely, etc.

Whatever the competition ends up being I am excited for it.
